Warning Against Adultery
5:1 My son, be attentive to my wisdom;
incline your ear to my understanding,
2 that you may keep discretion,
and your lips may guard knowledge.
3 For the lips of a forbidden [1] woman drip honey,
and her speech [2] is smoother than oil,
4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
her steps follow the path to [3] Sheol;
6 she does not ponder the path of life;
her ways wander, and she does not know it.
incline your ear to my understanding,
2 that you may keep discretion,
and your lips may guard knowledge.

7 And now, O sons, listen to me,
and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Keep your way far from her,
and do not go near the door of her house,
9 lest you give your honor to others
and your years to the merciless,
10 lest strangers take their fill of your strength,
and your labors go to the house of a foreigner,
11 and at the end of your life you groan,
when your flesh and body are consumed,
12 and you say, “How I hated discipline,
and my heart despised reproof!
13 I did not listen to the voice of my teachers
or incline my ear to my instructors.
14 I am at the brink of utter ruin
in the assembled congregation.”
and do not depart from the words of my mouth.

15 Drink water from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
16 Should your springs be scattered abroad,
streams of water in the streets?
17 Let them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
18 Let your fountain be blessed,
and rejoice in the wife of your youth,
19 a lovely deer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight;
be intoxicated [4] always in her love.
20 Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman
and embrace the bosom of an adulteress? [5]
21 For a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord,
and he ponders [6] all his paths.
22 The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him,
and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.
23 He dies for lack of discipline,
and because of his great folly he is led astray.

Best advice for man
v8 Keep your way FAR from her,and DO NOT GO NEAR the door of her house
flee.. flee..(1 cor 6:18, 1 cor 10:14, 2Tim 2:22)
...Let us flee, Lest us regret.
v20 why should you be intoxicated with a forbidden woman..an adulteress.
instead of being delighted with his lovely and gracious young wife (v19), the foolish son let himself to be intoxicated with forbidden woman & adulteress(v20). Held fast in the cords of hIs sin , he is led astray and dies (v22-23)
Sound folly? But at moment of temptation, when he is not attentive or incline to understanding (v1), the real bitter thing can be deceitfully sweet like honey (v3-4)
Likewise we can also be easily deceived and be intoxicated by the things and pleasure of the word if we are not attentive to God's word and instruction
Do not love the world or the things in the world. 1 john 2:15a
It all come down to our relationship with the Lord. How much do we really know Him as He has revealed Himself to us in the scripture by the Holy Spirit?. Someone says that our love and desire for happiness and satisfaction is so weak and so shallow that we always fall for the wrong things. We fall for the many inferior things of the world rather than the things of God that give true joy and ultimate satisfaction.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him 1 john 2:15b
You know what ? The solution to the young man's folly is to be madly in love with his wife. (v18-19)
Likewsie , the solution to our follies is to be madly in love with our Lord
"..love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Matthew 27:23

Sister Ellis, thanks for the contribution. We want more..
My summary on proverb 5:15-20
"Husband, love and rejoice over your wife because she is exclusively yours"
A too-early valentine day message? Or a much needed reminder for us, all the husbands out there?!
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Eph 5:25
I always get the chills when I think of how God has designed earthly marriage to show forth the glorious and sacrificial love Christ has for His church and how far we as human being have distorted that image.
Lord.. have mercy on us..
